Hola! I’m Janel Torkington.
((drop.of.juice)) is a snarky proclamation of a burning passion for everything food.
If you make any of these recipes, please write and tell me how many superlative adjectives you'd use in describing it (or how you almost burned down the neighborhood).
And remember, when in doubt, add lime!

Honey and White Wine Pizza + Really Ridiculously Low Effort Tomato Sauce
Posted on June 30, 2010 | View CommentsThe total standout was the SAUCE, for which I can't wait to find other applications. It made watery, bland Arizona tomatoes zing all over the place with sweetness, tang, and hints of piquancy. Plus I'd rename it "Really Ridiculously Low Effort Tomato Sauce," because it's a huge amount of bang for your time-investment buck. -
Khao Neow Mamuang – Sticky Rice with Mango
Posted on June 23, 2010 | View CommentsKao neow mamuang, sticky rice with mango, goes well beyond delicious and into the territory of the divine. Your tongue gets to toy with the wonderfully gummy sticky rice, and your taste buds die just a little bit in midst of intense buttery coconut bliss. Add icy tangy-sweet mango and voila! - a simply perfect finish to Thai Nite at the Torkingtons'. -
Tom Yam Talay – Hot and Sour Seafood Soup
Posted on June 23, 2010 | View CommentsNo coconut milk + no chili paste = thin, sour, side dish soup. Coconut milk + chili paste = rich, complex, gorgeous main dish. -
Khao Neow – Sticky Rice
Posted on June 23, 2010 | View CommentsSticky rice steamed in a huat for 24 hours is A+++; mine took 16 minutes in the microwave and was a straight A, stretching nearly into A+ territory as it cooled and got stickier. -
Som Tam – Green Papaya Salad
Posted on June 23, 2010 | View CommentsIt is fresh, it is healthy, it is bursting at the seams with taste-o-rama. It is juicy, it is spicy, it is tangy-sweet-peanutty-spicy goodness. And if you want it in the States, you have to make it yourself.
